You know what they say: accidents happen. However, you may be surprised to learn that some accidents happen more regularly on certain days than others. The National Accident Helpline analysed data from hundreds and thousands of people to work out when accidents are most likely to happen.

Day of the Week
So let’s start by looking at the most accident prone day of the week. The data mentioned above consisted of 350,000 claims enquiries spanning between now and back to 2013. It revealed one day in particular where accidents occur the most: Friday. This appears to be the most accident-prone day. 17% of the claims all happened on a Friday. Perhaps it’s because people are excited about the weekend and so aren’t as careful at work. For those who obtain injuries they can claim compensation or calculate it.
Day in the Year
If there was one day in the week that was particularly bad for accidents – what about the rest of the year? The experts figured this out, too. You need to be extra alert and pay attention to your surroundings on August 1st. Across seven years, this is when the most accidents were happening. On the day there is a huge 169% increase of injuries compared to the safest day of the year. Any guesses as to what that is? It’s Christmas Day. The only thing you’ll have to worry about is gift giving, rather than an injury.
Where do they Happen?
Every year, two million people have an accident at work. You may be surprised to learn how many of these happen at the office. Some of the most fatal injuries happen in the simplest of forms. Mainly tripping and falling. Or perhaps not looking where they’re going and crashing into something or someone. People can also lift loads that are too heavy and do some serious damage to their back. Fire hazards can also be a real threat to a workplace.
Safety Tips
After reading all this, you might be worried to step foot into your office – particularly on August 1st if it lands on a Friday – but don’t be concerned. Your workplace should have precautions in place so accidents don’t happen. From a clear fire exit to clearly labelled stairs to prevent falls. If you are worried about the workplace, don’t be afraid to speak to someone. Regular safety assessment could make everyone feel more at ease. Plus, you can do your part, too. Common sense and being aware of your surroundings can help.
Staying safe is always important, but you should be assured in the knowledge that there are people out there who can look after you if you do get into an accident. Were you surprised by what was the most accident prone day in the week?
