Health Risks of a Preoccupied CEO

1

Because this job comes with more stress that most people can take. You are handling huge capital, your company’s fiscal value is going through the roof, your employees and share-holders depend on you, and as if that wasn’t enough, your decision making could mean millions of dollars (won or lost). All these are major stress factors, but let’s see what they can do to it.

Anxiety is a state of uneasiness, triggered by an apprehensive behavior, such as extreme worrying about the uncertainty of an event or a situation. So, it’s similar to stress, no? No. The difference between them is that while stress is a direct response to a threat in a certain situation, anxiety is but a response to stress. So, you needn’t worry, right? Wrong again. Anxiety, which is a state, may trigger anxiety attack, which is no walk on the beach. From simple headaches to a feeling of nausea and shortness of breath, to shooting pains in the face and heart palpitation, all these are encountered in many people in this line of work. Anxiety medication won’t address the cause.  The evil must be cut from its roots.

The biggest risk you’re taking, is a heart disease. Different inherited traits or acquired habits may raise your risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). Stress also plays a big role in causing CHD. Triggering arteries to narrow, leading to a raise in your blood pressure and increasing the chances of a heart attack. Furthermore, stress creates bad dietary habits, so smoking and overeating foods high in fat and sugar will also lead to the same blockage in your arteries.

Combined with a bad diet and an unhealthy lifestyle, stress and negative emotions can affect you on the inside. A hidden danger of living such a stressful and demanding life is having your gut directly affected by it. The gut is the most vulnerable to the presence of chronic stress, thus leading to gut motility, gut permeability and barrier function.

Have you heard of the Leaky Gut Syndrome?

It is an affliction caused by an unhealthy lifestyle that could more serious problems. Why “leaky”? Well, it’s because the tight junctions keeping your guts together are broken, thus making your gut leak. So how do you know if you’re suffering from it? Are you bloated, suffering from cramps and extreme pains? Maybe this is the answer. If you want to learn more about leaky gut syndrome and how to cure it, this leaky gut video by Eric Bakker explains you how to prevent it and fight it from an early phase.

Being a preoccupied CEO is not for everyone. It’s not just a job you have. It’s a lifestyle. ‘Mens sana in corpore sano’, they say, and they are not wrong. Take care of yourself, because you cannot afford to let stress and emotion take over your life, hence, your company, your world.
