8 Ways to Start Your Morning in A Positive Way

“Waking up and remembering the million things you have to do, and the billion things you forgot to do, just makes you want to crawl back into bed and call in sick.” Sounds familiar? Knowing that we overslept, hearing that annoying alarm buzzing continuously or feeling moody in the morning can really ruin our day. The way we start our morning will affect our mood for the rest of the day. Here are 8 ways to start your morning in a positive way.

1. Rise Early

We are all familiar with the quote,” Early to bed and early to rise makes Jack healthy, wealthy and wise.” I can’t promise you on the wealthy part, but you will definitely feel more energized and happy. Although it is important to wake up early, it is equally important that you get a goodnight sleep of at least seven hours. Initially, it might seem hard to rise early, but once you get used to it you will feel a positive change in your lifestyle.

2. Wake up with a smile on your face

This may not seem realistic, but making a conscious effort to smile when you wake up will allow you to start your day on a positive note. Waking up with a smile on your face will make you more excited and keen to face the new day rather than sleeping in. When you wake up, take a moment to close your eyes and remember all the good things that have happened in your life. Staying positive and cheerful no matter what will give you the strength to face any hardships you might be going through.

3. Stop setting your alarm

There’s nothing more annoying than a loud alarm ruining your sleep in the morning. There are moments when you feel like hurling your phone across the phone, but politely press the snooze button a million times instead. What use is an alarm if you can’t wake up the moment it starts buzzing? Moreover, we end up hating our favorite song when we set it as our alarm to wake us up from our deep sleep. Here’s a tip- stop setting an alarm to wake you up. Once you get into the routine of waking up at 5 am every morning, you will always wake up on time without setting an alarm!

4. Don’t Check Your Phone

According to a recently conducted survey, 75% of the people admitted to checking their phone first thing in the morning. Even before getting out of bed and stretching, people tend to check their various social media accounts, and might even take a ‘woke up like this’ selfie to post online! Exposing your eyes to the bright screen light from your phone is not only harmful, but will also make you feel more tired. Instead, keep your phone as far away as possible from your bed side table. Make it a point to only check your phone after you are wide awake, and have started your day in a positive note.

5. Say a prayer

There’s nothing more positive than saying a small prayer before we get out of bed. It is extremely important to show our gratitude to the Lord for giving us a brand new day to face. Thank God for taking care of your family and loved ones, and pray for strength to get through the day.

6. Exercise

It is said that exercising early in the morning is more effective than during the afternoon or at night. It is important to expose yourself to fresh air and natural light first thing in the morning. The air is cleaner in the morning, before the cars crowd the streets. Put on some comfortable clothes and head out of the door for a jog. Another effective form of exercising is yoga, which is not only good for the body, but also for the mind. Don’t forget to keep yourself hydrated when you exercise!

7. Meditate

Another effective way to start your mornings on a positive note is to set aside a few minutes to meditate. Set aside a quiet and private space for meditating in the morning. Meditation is an extremely powerful tool that can calm the mind and improve your concentration. The right time to meditate is first thing in the morning, before your mind is burdened with the thoughts and plans for the day.

8. Keep your surroundings clean

In order to be positive and calm in the morning, it is extremely important to keep your surroundings clean at all times. Make your bed immediately after waking up, and lay out your outfit for work before going to bed. A clean bedroom will make you feel more happy, content and positive before you start your day.
