Here are our top 5 tips on how to stay safe while traveling abroad.

1 – Check and double-check the vaccinations you need to travel. Your local pharmacy will have specific details on which vaccinations are necessary for where you are traveling. Not all vaccinations are mandatory for a location, but it’s better to be on the safe side! Some journeys overseas mean you have to have specific documents stating you’ve received the relevant vaccinations to be allowed to enter the country. In contrast, some are just advisable to protect yourself. Be prepared as some medications will be expensive and make sure you visit your pharmacy with enough time prior to your leaving date as some medications must be taken weeks before you arrive in the country.

2 – Aim to travel with a group. One of the best ways to stay safe when traveling is by taking a travel buddy, whether you’ve been best friends for years or are acquittances both keen on broadening your horizons. Choosing a travel buddy will not only keep you safe but it also helps you to create new fond memories with your companion. If you cant travel with someone else, aim to have a reliable person in each country that you can contact and stay in touch with; ask family and friends if they know of anyone in the countries you’re visiting. You’ll be surprised just how many people know someone abroad!

3 – Choosing reliable accommodation. We’ve all been to a hotel which looks entirely different from the photos you viewed online, so be especially careful when visiting abroad as this will become your base for your stay. Airbnb is an incredibly reliable search engine for accommodation; whether it’s a private room or an entire home you’re looking for, Airbnb will have a variety of accommodations for a range of prices. Just be sure to check the reviews!

4 – Be cautious with food. We all love eating the local cuisine to really get a feel for the country we’re visiting, but no one wants to spoil their trip by coming down with food poisoning. Avoiding meat and making sure fresh foods like fruit and vegetables are washed with bottled water are some of the best ways to avoid falling ill. Odorless garlic tablets are another fantastic way to boost up your immune system while abroad to avoid becoming poorly, as well as drinking bottled water wherever possible.

Above all else, enjoy traveling! The cuisine, people, and cultures that you can experience through traveling abroad are second to none, and the memories made will last a lifetime.
