Why I’m Making This Commitment Public
Success in business is not measured by revenue alone. After years of building teams and watching people grow, I’ve learned that true success comes from being respected by those you lead and making an impact on people’s lives. That is why I am making this pledge public: to hold myself accountable to the values that matter most.
As the founder of Pinnacle Health Group, I have had the privilege of watching people’s quality of life improve through the work we do. But I have also faced my share of mistakes. I have been too generous at the wrong times. I have ignored my intuitive thought and fallen into paralysis by analysis. I have experienced burn out and doubt. These obstacles have taught me that leadership requires more than expertise. It requires a commitment to care, compassion, and passion.
This pledge is my promise to the people I lead, to my team, and to myself. It is a concrete set of commitments designed to ensure that the culture we build reflects the values we claim.
The Five Commitments
Commitment One: Respect Over Authority. I will earn respect through action, not demand it through position. Every member of my team deserves to be heard, valued, and trusted. I will create space for honest feedback and act on it, even when it challenges my assumptions.
Commitment Two: Trust Intuition Before Overthinking. I have learned the hard way that paralysis by analysis can stall progress and drain energy. Moving forward, I will trust my gut when the data is unclear and move decisively. I will encourage my team to do the same.
Commitment Three: Protect Against Burn Out. Burn out is real, and I have experienced it firsthand. I commit to modeling sustainable work habits: prioritizing exercise, meditation, and yoga as non-negotiable parts of my routine. I will encourage my team to set boundaries and honor their own well-being.
Commitment Four: Be Compassionate, Always. Care and compassion are not soft skills. They are leadership essentials. I will lead with empathy, especially in difficult moments. I will remember that every person on my team is navigating challenges I may not see.
Commitment Five: Invest in People’s Growth. The greatest privilege of leadership is playing a part in watching other people’s quality of life improve. I will invest in training, mentorship, and opportunities for advancement. I will celebrate wins and learn from losses together.
How I Will Measure Progress
Accountability requires measurement. Every quarter, I will conduct anonymous team surveys focused on three questions: Do you feel respected? Do you feel supported in your growth? Do you feel the culture reflects our stated values? The results will be shared transparently, and I will address gaps publicly.
I will also hold monthly one-on-one meetings with each direct report, using that time to listen more than I speak. I will ask: What do you need from me? Where are you stuck? How can I help? These conversations will guide my actions.
Finally, I will track my own habits. Exercise, meditation, and self development are not luxuries. They are the foundation of my ability to lead well. I will log these practices daily and share my progress with my team to reinforce the message that well-being matters.
What This Means for Pinnacle Health Group
This pledge is not just about me. It is about building a culture where care, compassion, and respect are embedded in every decision we make. It is about creating an environment where people feel safe to take risks, speak up, and grow.
I grew up in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the only child of a salon owner and an electrician. I learned early that hard work matters, but so does how you treat people. I played football, basketball, and baseball. I won a rugby championship in college. I have boxed on and off all my life. These experiences taught me that success is a team effort, and that the best teams are built on trust and mutual respect.
I am making this pledge because I believe that the quality of our work is directly tied to the quality of our culture. When people feel valued, they do their best work. When they feel burned out or ignored, everyone suffers.
An Invitation to Other Leaders
I am sharing this pledge publicly because I hope it will inspire other leaders to do the same. We do not need perfect leaders. We need honest ones. Leaders who are willing to admit their mistakes, learn from them, and commit to doing better.
If you lead a team, I challenge you to write down your own commitments. Make them specific. Make them measurable. Share them with the people you lead. Then hold yourself accountable.
Leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about caring enough to keep asking the right questions. It is about showing up with passion, compassion, and a genuine desire to make an impact on people’s lives.
