TBC Uzbekistan Wins Four Euromoney Awards Including Best for Consumer Lending and SME Banking

Uzbekistan Wins

TBC Uzbekistan has taken home four awards at Euromoney’s Awards for Excellence, one of the most rigorous and longstanding recognition programmes in global finance. The awards span both retail and enterprise categories: Central Asia’s Best Digital Bank, Uzbekistan’s Best Digital Bank, Uzbekistan’s Best for Consumer Lending, and Uzbekistan’s Best Digital Bank for SMEs. Together, they represent a comprehensive endorsement of the company’s performance across the full spectrum of its operations.

Euromoney’s Awards for Excellence have assessed financial institutions for more than three decades, covering over 700 organisations across 125 countries. The breadth and rigour of the evaluation process make the recognition meaningful well beyond the immediate market context. For TBC Uzbekistan, which launched in 2020 and has built its position entirely within the digital-first era, the awards mark a significant milestone in a trajectory that continues to outpace expectations.

Recognition Across Four Distinct Categories

The range of awards received by TBC Uzbekistan is as significant as the awards themselves. Being recognised as both Central Asia’s and Uzbekistan’s best digital bank demonstrates a dominant position at both the country and regional level two different frames of reference that require the same underlying performance to hold across different competitive contexts. The additional recognition for consumer lending and SME banking indicates that this strength is not confined to one product area or one customer segment.

The consumer lending award reflects TBC Uzbekistan’s leading position in credit across the country. With over 6 million monthly active users and a platform designed around accessible, mobile-first lending, TBC has built a consumer credit business that serves a broad and diverse user base. CEO Nika Kurdiani has articulated the company’s ambition as one of transformation and accessibility making financial services genuinely available to those who previously had limited or no access to them.

The SME banking award adds an important dimension to this picture. TBC Business, the company’s enterprise division, was launched in December 2024 to serve Uzbekistan’s large and historically underserved small business sector. Its rapid adoption tens of thousands of registered business customers within a short operating window — reflects the scale of unmet demand that existed in this segment and the effectiveness of TBC’s digital-first approach in addressing it.

A Digital Ecosystem Built for Everyday Finance

TBC Uzbekistan’s product portfolio covers a range of financial needs that extend well beyond conventional banking. Its consumer platform encompasses daily banking, lending, payments, buy-now-pay-later services, insurance, and travel and ticketing a combination that positions TBC as a platform for daily life rather than simply a place to store and move money. On the enterprise side, TBC Business and BILLZ, the company’s retail management platform, address the operational and financial needs of merchants and small businesses.

This breadth is not accidental. The company has built its ecosystem with the explicit goal of serving users across multiple dimensions of their financial lives, increasing both the frequency and the depth of engagement. Each product category added to the platform creates a new reason for users to return — and each interaction generates data that can be used to improve the relevance of the platform’s offerings over time.

The technology infrastructure that supports this ecosystem is built entirely in-house. TBC Uzbekistan has developed proprietary speech technology and Uzbek-language large language models, capabilities that now power Lola the company’s AI assistant deployed across customer support, sales, and collections. This level of technical investment reflects a long-term view of what it takes to build a durable digital banking platform in an emerging market context.

Regional Trade, Currency Flows, and the Rise of Digital Banking

TBC Uzbekistan’s growth is taking place within a broader regional context that is itself undergoing significant change. Uzbekistan’s economic relationships with its Central Asian neighbours have deepened considerably in recent years, with cross-border trade, labour mobility, and remittance flows creating a growing set of financial needs that span national currency boundaries.

Kazakhstan represents one of the most active of these economic relationships, with significant trade volumes, migrant worker remittances, and business activity flowing between the two countries. The sustained interest in tools such as “tenge kursi” reflects a large and growing segment of users — individuals, traders, and small businesses who are actively managing financial activity that involves both currencies. Access to accurate, real-time exchange rate information has become a practical requirement for this segment, and digital banking platforms that provide it as part of their core service offering are increasingly well positioned to serve these users’ broader financial needs.

For TBC Uzbekistan, the integration of currency services into its platform is a natural extension of its overall strategy. A platform that already handles payments, lending, and daily banking is well placed to become the primary tool through which users manage the full range of their financial activity — including cross-border transactions that require currency awareness and conversion capability.

The Infrastructure Behind the Awards

The four Euromoney awards reflect performance that has been built over five years of sustained investment and operational discipline. TBC Uzbekistan entered the market with a clear thesis that Uzbekistan’s underbanked population represented a significant opportunity for a well-designed digital banking platform and has executed against that thesis with a consistency that is now visible in both its market metrics and its international recognition.

The numbers that underpin the awards are substantial. Monthly active users number 6 million. The company holds a leading position in consumer credit. Payments market share stands at over 20% nationally. TBC Business has registered tens of thousands of customers since its December 2024 launch, with business lending now representing a meaningful share of the total loan portfolio.

TBC Bank Group, the London-listed parent company, has provided the institutional framework within which these results have been achieved. The relationship between a globally experienced financial group and a digitally native Uzbek operation has proven effective combining the capital discipline and governance standards of an internationally listed entity with the local focus and product agility required to compete in a fast-moving emerging market. The Euromoney recognition is, among other things, a validation of that model.
