Streetwear Aesthetic: How to achieve the look

In the ever-changing world of fashion, streetwear still remains a mainstay and major player in the fashion industry world. Streetwear was once only worn by the likes of skateboarders, with it being baggy jeans and jumpers perfect for the skateboarding world.

Such celebrities as Kanye West have only increased the popularity of streetwear, bringing it to the big stage and taking it to a new level, both working with other brands and creating his own to show that streetwear can be both fashionable and stylish and isn’t just for doing tricks on a skateboard like Tony Hawk.

Since then, times have changed, with things like graphic printed puffer jackets being worn by many celebrities, over time this has changed the view on streetwear and is now one of the most common and popular clothing choices around.

But just how did streetwear come to fashion and become the mainstay that it is today, well in this article we’ll be taking a look at just that and seeing where streetwear goes from here.

Streetwear comes in all shapes and sizes, with numerous different variations of the style to choose from. Due to its style, you can really customise it your way and there’s no right or wrong way of doing it, with there also being virtually unlimited ways for you to go with it.

Let’s take a look at how you can style your clothing to achieve the streetwear look.

Shoes

Trainers can make or break an outfit, so it’s important you understand your look before choosing on a pair. There are hundreds of different trainer styles to choose from, so make sure you plan out what you’re going to be wearing first before deciding on trainers, as even if the rest of the outfit works perfectly, if the trainers don’t match, it can be a deal breaker.

Make sure you choose a similar colour and style to your other items of clothing, and you’ll be well on your way to having the perfect streetwear outfit. With the world having a high focus on the fashion industry at the moment you are also more likely to find graphic prints on shoes now which will enhance the streetwear aesthetic even more.

Trousers

Having a good pair of jeans or cargos is definitely a priority for streetwear. They’re extremely versatile and offer great options for other items in your outfit. With a pair of black cargo trousers along with the trainers, you’re allowing yourself to really go all in with the upper part of the outfit as these will keep the tone down on the outfit as a whole.

Top half

You’ve really got lots of options here, you can opt for a t-shirt and a jumper, either plain or with a graphic on. One thing is for sure with this option, it needs to be oversized as that really adds to the streetwear aesthetic.

Your other option is to go for an oversized puffer coat. With the oversized puffer coats, you’re really able to express yourself due to their styles and designs. If you’re feeling brave you could even, go for a styled oversized jumper and then add a puffer coat on top to really add the texture to the outfit. Having these options allow you to play around with your style and really find something that works for you and suits you as a person.

Streetwear has come a long way in recent years, with it going from mainly skateboarders and people in hip-hop, to one of the biggest fashion trends on the planet. Due to its meteoric rise, it’s still relatively new in the fashion world, and as such, is still very much at the top of the fashion tree.

With more and more celebrities taking on this style and showing it off, it’s only going to get more and more popular as time goes on. As social media platforms expand further with popularity we will see this style aesthetic blossom. Although we’re not sure what’s next for streetwear, it’s definitely here to stay.
